Dr. Catherine Magouyrk has been Superintendent of Manassas City Public Schools (MCPS), a school district of nearly 8,000 students, since July 2012. Manassas City Public Schools is an urban school district that takes pride in its economic, ethnic and racial diversity.
Dr. Magouyrk believes that how students begin school, experience learning opportunities at each grade is crucial for their opportunities after high school. Under her leadership, MCPS has experienced significant gains in student achievement in reading, math, science and social studies; the expansion of technology access and devices in all schools; the establishment of a K-12 STEM and K-12 CTE program for all students and 2 themed elementary schools (Spanish Dual Immersion and Talents and Gifts). Osbourn High School, a 1:1 environment, is a Grammy Signature School and was recently recognized by U.S. News and World Report for its 2016 Best High Schools in the Silver Medal category, placing it in the top 16% of high schools in the state of Virginia. Manassas City Public Schools is also proud to be the only school district in the Commonwealth with a state funded public homeschool pre-k program and a city-wide pre-k program utilizing a digital curriculum available to all 4-year-olds.
Dr. Magouyrk a presents at various conferences and through education-focused digital platforms on communication, leadership, CTE/STEM and early childhood programming. She also serves on many civic organizations and non-profit Boards which has increased business and community engagement with the school district and greatly enhanced CTE opportunities for students.
